The principle of carbon dioxide laser cutting machine

The principle of a CO2 laser cutting machine is to generate laser light by utilizing the transitions between the vibrational and rotational energy levels of CO2 molecules. The discharge tube of a CO2 laser is filled with a mixture of gases such as CO2, nitrogen, and helium. The ratio and total pressure of these gases can vary within a certain range. Any molecule has three different forms of motion: the motion of electrons within the molecule, which determines the electron energy state; the vibration of atoms within the molecule, i.e., the periodic vibration of atoms around their equilibrium positions, which determines the vibrational energy state of the molecule; and the rotation of molecules, which determines the rotational energy state of the molecule. A CO2 laser utilizes the transitions between the vibrational and rotational energy levels of CO2 molecules to generate laser light.
